The first ever South African national Scrap Book Day this year was simply fantastic. My local craft shop (The Scrappers Village) hosted for this area, and there were MANY prizes sponsored by several different places. It was a simply magical day full of friends, challenges, learning, ideas, sharing, and of course – FUN.
Each person was given a goodie bag overflowing with paper and embellishments and other goodies, and I decided to use some of the items in my box to make my first DPL without a kit. (I am relatively new to scrapbooking). It was such fun, and I even won a participation prize.
The DPL Sketch challenge was based on a sketch by Michelle van Wyk.
.
For the title, I used some letters from a kit I had on the day, but this is my DPL without photos, so far:
I started with two pages of olive-coloured paper fro the background, and then followed the sketch as closely as possible using the embellishments from my goodie bag. I used a lovely red flower which I made slightly smaller, and inked on the edges, inked the edges of all my cut paper, and then stenciled some striped on the paper using distress ink. I can’t remember which colours I used, and the photos are not fantastic quality, but this is my first attempt at a photo tutorial, and they will only get better. FOr the letters, I drew faux stitching around the letters, and then blended them with two colours to give the coloured look.
My frames towards the top right went a bit skew, but all in all, I think it was a lovely page. I am very happy with how it turned out.

My next page will contain more information about exactly which products I used – sorry about that, I didn’t really pay attention at the time.
Thanks for popping along, and see you all soon.
