Weekends are the most difficult time for Colin I think. Several of his mates go home over weekends, and without visitors, he would stay in bed all day not being able to do anything at all. Luckily, I really want to spend time with him, and the weekends are the prefect days. During the week he is so busy with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, spinal health education, and more, so I have found that if I want to spend quality time with him, I should go after 3pm. He is usually done with his day by then, and although all the nurse-y-type-things happen from then on, they are very quick, and they are very aware of visitors and often put off doing his obs or dressings, or whatever if he has visitors. During the week I stay from about 2:30 until after 8pm when they throw me out. 🙂
Weekends are better because we get to spend real time together. We stroll the corridors, we go out into the garden, we eat our meals together, we watch movies… Sometimes we sleep while the movie plays. 😀
Today, his news was that he is doing well on the tilt-table, and he mentioned that he has started pushing up with his legs a little. He does seem to be regaining some movement in his legs, knees, ankles, and feet, but still not so much in his hands and fingers.
Also, they removed the bandage from his trachy hole. They have been cleaning it every day since they removed it on Wednesday, but it has healed enough that they are leaving it open now. So much good progress!
Here are some pics from today – you can see the hole from the trachy, and next to it on the left are the very slight scar remains of his 5 hour-long stablisation operation which are all but gone. It is incredible how quickly his neck is going to look completely scar-free and as if nothing has happened. In a way, he says he feels a little cheated. Such a good story, but he doesn’t really have the marks to prove it.
Sitting in the canteen eating sarms for lunch:
I will be there again tomorrow morning for the day, and then I want to see if I am able to put in place the visiting schedule so I can keep my sanity. I want to visit on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from around 2:30 to 8pm, and all day on the weekends. This gives me 2 days off to do all the other things. Colin says he will miss me but it is ok. I have to believe him that if he needs me to come an additional day he will speak up, but I am still a bit too worried to leave him for what seems like so many days without seeing him. HA HA HA.
Perhaps we can post some action shots tomorrow from the garden – it was freezing and raining today, so we stayed inside.
Sleep well everyone.
Judy
Such good news ….
