Morning all
We are settling in well, and starting to find a routine, although we are not quite there yet. We are still waiting for the bulk of our equipment for Colin, but we have the loan wheelchair, and that is the most important thing. The chair rack on the car is not actually working for the new chair as the chair has a much lower ground clearance, and is also a lot heavier. We have a few options we are exploring, but I understand that the max weight for safety on the rack is 100kgs. It was a really good interim solution.
We are about half way done with the alterations, and even though it really cannot be finished early enough, I am pleased with the progress so far. The guy is meticulous, and is doing a really good job, as far as I can tell. The ramp is a work of art, and now I completely understand why the ramp was the largest part of the quote. When it is all done, and we are still super happy, I will write a glowing testimonial with all his details.
The animals seem to have completely settled again, and are treating Colin as they always used to. It was a little sad that at first some of them didn’t sort of know how to interact with him, and seem to have even forgotten who he was. The cats are a little freaked out because we have builders in the house, but they are playing and fighting just as they used to. All is well. I am getting used to not being able to sleep for 100 hours at a time, and my body is adjusting. 😀 Colin is missing his mates at the rehab, but is loving being home, and being able to play on his computer all day long. We still need to investigate more assistive devices, but we are getting there.
Here are some pics of the process – I had forgotten just how dusty it is to have this sort of thing inside…
