Colin was well today, and has lost a total of 29 KGs. He has 1 more to go before he can use a commode, and this is actually very exciting for all sorts of reasons.
He will be able to have a shower on the commode, and he will also be light enough not to have to have the bariatric stuff “for the robust gentleman”. This is a bit of an in-joke, but essentially, it means he has lost enough weight that he can go to the next level down of reinforcement which is a huge cost saving, and makes it much easier to manage (for him, and for us).
He is scheduled for try 2 of his suprapubic catheter tomorrow morning, and we are holding thumbs that it will go well. We are not sure how painful it will be, or how quickly it heal, and both of us are a little apprehensive about the weekend at home in case it turns out to not be easy for either party.
We have made a deal that if at any stage, either one of u finds it too difficult, or either of us just feels too anxious, we will take him back to the rehab. It was one thing to have him home for sort of half a day where we could sort of do whatever we wanted, but this is going to be the whole thing. Cleaning, bathing, all the medications, all the diabetic management, all the night stuff, all the 4-hourly things, and so on. But as Colin says – to do is to learn. I think I may be more pleased about the visit than he is – but I think he is carefully managing his expectations. He is so much wiser than me about these things.
On a different note – there is something wrong with my PC, and I may be offline for a few days while I try sort it out. I will try to post updates, specially as there should be good stuff happening, but if there are no new posts, please try again tomorrow. And tomorrow…
Today I am grateful for structure, sleep, lists, and ice-cold Coke Zero.
